For pouring herbs or granular or powdered incense onto charcoal with little spillage. These are just the right size and pretty, too! They vary in color, since horn is a natural product, from an amber-gold or greenish gold through brown into black. If you have a preference, holler, but they're all nice.

These are also an appropriate personal or table spoon for any time period from the late Neolithic through the Renaissance.

Smudges – Used for centuries in shamanic ritual, smudge sticks are becoming very popular again, today. Burned, or allowed to smolder, they give off scents that enhance ritual. We carry smudges in several sizes and recommendations and correspondences are given below. Packaged for freshness with an explanatory header. Please use with safety and with reverence for this old tradition.

Lighting a Smudge

Hold the stem end of your smudge in your fingers and hold head-down over a candle to light. Depending on the variety of smudge and how tightly it is tied, it will either burn, burn and go out to smolder, or only smolder.

Instructions for Use

Blow on smoldering smudges to keep them going. Be careful! Burning bits can fly and hurt, whether you are blowing on the smudge or they just drop. Experimentation will give you the experience in which kind works best for you.

To Extinguish

Push into dry sand in a heatproof container and "screw down" into the sand. When you are certain that the smudge is out and cool, lift it up and tap the sand and ash back into your container.
