At Ancient Light we offer informative yet affordable classes. We hold classes for both
adults and kids. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult, but there is no extra
charge for the adult.
Please call or sign up to reserve your class space as there are limits to class sizes.
In some cases, if no one is signed up for a class, it may be cancelled or postponed. Classes are usually held at the
Ancient Light store in Seal Rock.
You can help us hold classes that fit *your* interests by filling in our class survey, or simply e-mail and ask, "When?"

We have something new starting this Friday. A number of folks have been asking to have a regular meditation session,
since we often include them in the Sabbats, but this practice is not covered in any depth in the regular classes.
Now's your chance! No experience necessary.
Since this will be an ongoing time, we'll start where each person is and go on from there. Some experienced people
want to lead group meditations, some folks just want to be involved and get practice or motivation.
Each session will start when I close the shop, so show up before 5 or let me know you're coming. This could be
a 1/2 hour session with Q&A and sharing or go on for longer. Depending on who shows up and when we'll cover:
active and quiet forms of meditation, finding your own style, topics, chants, guided and group meditations,
both participating and leading.

Event Details: This is a 6-week class in basic Wicca aimed at teenagers
and set up to accommodate their learning style instead of adults. The
reason that we're including parents and teens together is to develop an
understanding of what the teens are up to, since often parental units get
left out of the loop and see only to odd parts of what young people are up
to, instead of the good involved in this old/new religious practice. |

102 picks up where 101 leaves off, in the basics of ritual, deconstruction and reconstructing this important part of our practice. It covers not just the why and what, but the how, including practical rehearsal of each part as we go, sources for ritual parts and how to put the whole back together in a coherent piece.
This class is open to those who have taken our 101 class. As the other classes at this level, it is a 6-lesson series. We will cover the basics of magick, starting with Ritual Tools and what they symbolize and why, go on to elements & correspondences, the magick of science, the science of magick, paradigms of belief, then cover practical applications in spellwork and ritual and the beginnings of creating your own.
Everyone starts out knowing that "divination is something witches do...." Often we pick one style
and stick with it for years, but what if it doesn't work well for you? Or stops working? Or what if you want
to try something else that you've heard about, but not gotten into?
This class is an introduction to the various types of divination, with opportunities to try lots of fun tools
and helpful hints to make it all easier.
Basic tools to work with will be provided. Many tools are available through the shop for purchase.
The first class is just the basics, more of a survey of different types of divination and the practices that
are common to all types. At that time we will discuss which things you have to bring with you and what things
you might want to collect up.

The class dates are set to run on the off weeks between Esbats & Sabbats.

Our Herb Class happens on Thursdays & Saturdays in two sections, each one hour long. There is no charge for this class except for the work put in during class.
Herbalism has always been taught in practical settings: in the garden, in the kitchen, in the stillroom, with a patient or in ritual. Hands-on is the right way to learn this ancient craft, by getting your hands dirty! We do use modern shortcuts (microwave, anyone?) but in general we'll be working with the same stuff as our ancestors have for millennia.
Section One, Herbs Outdoors – From 7-8pm most Thursdays (weather permitting, e-mail us for days) This is practical garden work: identifying herbs and properties, planting, cultivation, harvesting and harvesting by moon phase, care of soil. This class becomes intermittent between November and February.
Section Two, Herbs Indoors – For 1 hour somewhere between 1 & 4pm all Saturdays (e-mail us for specific times) Practical indoor work: hanging and drying herbs in both traditional and modern methods, identification of herbs in the dry state and properties, preparation for storage and storage techniques, infusions, decoctions & tinctures, making bath salts, compounding incense, making magickal oils, soaps and candles and so on. Occasionally we work on the planter boxes in front of the shop and the herbs out back.

Our Sewing Skills workshop happens twice in a week, two different styles. You may attend either or both. There is no charge for this class except for the work put in during class.
Friday Workshop – From 12-2pm most Fridays (Thursdays in summer) - This is practical stitching. We start where you are and cover basic seams, hems, materials, lining and inter-lining, cutting out techniques, pattern-work (both following and creating) & clothing repair and sewing both by hand and by machine. If you don't know how to thread a needle, that's where we start!!!! Most non-sewers begin with a small pouch, and go on to creating simple garments such as aprons, drawstring skirts and capes and practical household items, such as tableclothes, pillows and curtains. This is the more intensive class.
Sunday Stitch 'n Bitch – From 2- 4pm Sundays - Bring your projects, bring your mending, bring your munchies and just hang out. People who can't make the weekday class can catch up on classwork at this time.
|
When: |
Fridays (Thursdays) or Sundays, 2 hours (see above description) |
|
Fee: |
No charge |
Our Wine Class happens on Thursdays from 8-9pm (get directions from Ancient Light during store hours)
This is a hands-on class in making wines at home. We cover equipment, techniques, starting a wine, racking and bottling, aging, types, ingredients, etc. We usually have 2-3 wines going in different stages. Current wines are an apple wine intended for Mabon/Samhain and a spiced mead/metheglin that may be ready for Litha of 2010. We just finished an elderberry that is aging and may be ready for Samhain.
